Service Description
Each Course consists of 6 Weeks of Glassblowing. Class will meet for 3 hours once a week and take place on Saturday mornings for a total of 3 hours. Please check our schedule to see which Course suits your schedule. Course Description: In this class students will learn the basic principles of working molten glass. Tools and materials will be provided. By the conclusion of this course, each student should be able to independently create a blown tumbler of clear glass. Students with more experience will be expected to incorporate colors and or additional shapes. Course Outline: Orientation a. Glass Center safety procedures and standards. b. Identify safety equipment/ proper dress. c. Locate first aid kit and fire extinguisher. d. Overview of the hand tools and equipment used in the Hot Shop Each class session will begin with a demonstration by the instructor. Students will then be given time to practice a skill or technique. During practice time, instructors will be available to guide individual students through of the process of making a blown glass object. Day 1 – Gathering on a rod. ( Paperweights) a. Gather on a rod. b. Using the marver. c. Sitting and standing from the bench. d. Form a jack line. Day 2 – Gather on a pipe. (Bottom weighted sphere) a. Starter bubble. b. Water and knock off. Day 3 – Dome punty. (Shot glass production) a. Intro to wooden paddle, bench blow, dome punty, knock off table. b. Transfer to punty. c. Punty ball game. Day 4 – Cylinders. (Cup start to finish) a. Bottom weighted sphere warm up. b. Second gather, use #8 wooden block. Day 5 – Bud Vase. (Use the jacks to open at an angle) a. Use gravity at the bench, to form a neck. b. Trimming the neck Day 6 - Pint Glass ( 2 gather pint glass) a. Build the bottom ⅓ of the cup with a thick foot and the wall angled for a wider opening. If a student has to miss a class due to illness, they have the opportunity to audit the class they missed during the next session. A fee will apply if a student needs to audit more then one class.
